Loss Prevention with Security Turnstiles and Post & Rail Systems

With the growing financial crisis, retailers are being plagued by an increase in employee theft as well as consumer shoplifting.  According to Tom Blomberg , dean of the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida State University, “…when people are unemployed and economic hardship is more widespread, crime seems to be more frequent.”

Questions that face retailers are how to prevent merchandise loss from both employees and customers. While employing security staff, adding additional security monitoring systems, and educating employees to watch for potential problems, is among some of the remedies, however, they can be quite expensive. Some affordable solutions for retailers are to include such items as post and rail , waist-height and security turnstiles into their loss prevention plan.  By doing so helps deter would be shoplifters from “running” out of stores with merchandise. In addition, adding full-height security turnstiles at employee entrances helps reduce theft by allowing employees to enter through one section of the facility and exit through another.

In some instances, facilities such as casinos have installed post and rail systems as well as waist-height  turnstiles (with counters) to control employee counts and reduce theft of food while in their cafeterias. This has helped in their loss prevention.

If you are a retailer and would have any questions on how Hardware Specialties’ products can help your business with loss prevention, please call or email us .

Retractable Belt Stanchions Can Provide A Safe Environment For Your Customers

It's perhas the last thing that may go through you or your customers mind; being involved in an altercation while waiting in line to order food or checkout at a register. Yet, it does happen. Customers are in a hurry, tempers flare and the next thing you know you have an argument that could lead to an altercation. There's a simple solution to this problem and that is provide a clear path to checkout or ordering in your facility. This not only provides for an organized and controlled environment, it communicates to your customers that you your facility does take customer service serious.

Stanchions are an affordable and portable solution to the problem. By providing a basic queuing line for customers, you can communicate clearly to them who's next rather than have a poorly organized checkout/ordering system. What's more, your customers will appreciate the organization and will have a more positive experience, not to mention avoid a confrontation.

Two videos below provide an insight into a popular fast food restuarant where lack of pedestrian control and queuing leads to altercations. If a pedestrian queuing system where in place, these altercations may not have occured. You can clearly see the lack of organization and any clearly defined line in each video.
